Burkina Faso announces diplomatic break with France
On June 26th local time, the government of Burkina Faso announced the severance of diplomatic relations with France, effective immediately. The Burkina Faso government stated that after a comprehensive evaluation of the current bilateral relationship, the two countries no longer have the foundation of "mutual trust, mutual respect for national sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs" for their diplomatic relations. The government of Burkina Faso accused France in a statement of "continuously engaging in activities that harm the interests of Burkina Faso," while emphasizing that this action is not directed at French citizens, who will continue to be protected in Burkina Faso.
