"Fourteenth Five-Year Plan" hands in outstanding results in the battle for protecting the blue waters.

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment held its routine press conference in June, and Director of the Water Ecological Environment Department, Jiang Huohua, stated that there has been a turning point in the quality of national water ecological environment during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. By 2025, the proportion of Class III water quality in national surface water will reach 91.4%, and the proportion of Class V poor sections will be 0.6%, the best levels since monitoring records began. The compliance rate for key river and lake ecological flows will exceed 90%, with a total of 8,600 kilometers of river and lake ecological buffer zones restored, and the population of Yangtze River finless porpoises has increased to 1,426 individuals. The mainstream of the Yangtze River has maintained Class II water quality for 6 consecutive years, and the mainstream of the Yellow River has maintained Class II water quality for 4 consecutive years. These achievements are the result of the joint efforts of various regions and departments: continuous deepening of water environment governance, focusing on promoting water ecological protection and restoration, effective prevention of water environmental risks, and improving the water ecological environment governance system.
