A group representing major car manufacturers warned on Tuesday that unless California delays the implementation of vehicle technology regulations designed to prevent domestic violence abusers from tracking survivors, car companies may be forced to suspend the sale of new and used cars in the state on July 1. The "Alliance for Automotive Innovation", representing manufacturers such as General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and most other major car manufacturers, stated that unless the relevant legislation is signed into law before July 1, "California's car sales will face a significant risk of suspension". The organization stated that car manufacturers are implementing measures to protect domestic violence victims in compliance with a 2024 law, "but some provisions of the law cannot be complied with this year".
