Microsoft announced on Tuesday that its first data center facility in Mount Pleasant City has been completed. The facility, which completed equipment installation and startup testing in April, is now fully operational, marking an important milestone in the company's continued investment in the southeastern part of Wisconsin. The facility, announced to be built in May 2024, was completed ahead of schedule after nearly 10,000 construction workers actively participated in the construction over the past two years. Currently, there are nearly 550 full-time employees on site supporting operations. Microsoft and its contractors are actively recruiting and expect the number of employees to continue to grow over time. Microsoft Vice Chairman and President Brad Smith said, "With our Fairwater data center fully operational, Wisconsin has now become the home of the world's most powerful supercomputers. The campus will power global next-generation artificial intelligence innovation and provide long-term economic opportunities for the local area through hundreds of high-skilled jobs and continued investment in the region."
