The Japanese yen continues to weaken, with reports of Japan's Finance Minister Koizumi Kozuki and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bensont holding an online meeting, foreign exchange traders are on high alert for possible intervention by the Japanese authorities in the foreign exchange market. On Tuesday morning, the yen against the dollar was around 161.57, close to its lowest level in 40 years. NHK and Kyodo News reported that Koizumi and Bensont may have discussed exchange rate issues.
