Improper big factory code farmers, American computer graduates compete for the "founder" track.
The latest research shows that starting a startup is becoming the first choice for more and more computer science graduates. Adequate funding, strong interest from venture capitalists, and advancements in automated programming technologies have all contributed to many graduates embarking on the path of being founders. At the same time, in fields like software engineering, employers are increasingly favoring experienced candidates, leading to fewer job opportunities for recent graduates, which has forced many to seek alternative paths and become their own bosses. A new report from the venture capital firm SignalFire shows that among 2025 computer science graduates from 20 universities in the United States, the proportion of graduates who have identified themselves as "founders" has doubled to 6%, compared to only 2.9% in the 2022 cohort. The report analyzed LinkedIn profiles of over 10,000 bachelor's degree recipients annually.
