Google stock fell on Monday after another prominent figure in artificial intelligence leadership resigned and joined a competitor. Google's DeepMind Vice President John Jumper announced over the weekend that he would be leaving to join Anthropic, causing Alphabet's stock price to drop by 7.2% at one point, the largest intraday decline since February. Just last week, one of Google's most well-known researchers, Noam Shazeer, announced his departure to join OpenAI. This drop in Alphabet's stock price comes at a time when large tech stocks in general are showing weakness. Jumper, known for his contributions to the field of artificial intelligence, is also a core member of Google's AI programming development team and was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
