Newly added professional majors such as AI and robots have become key directions for many universities to expand enrollment.

This year, among the "double first-class" universities, Southeast University will increase enrollment by 600 students, Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology will increase enrollment by 400 students, and Xi'an Jiaotong University will increase enrollment by 360 students compared to last year. Fudan University, Nanjing University, and Lanzhou University will each increase enrollment by 300 students. Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications will increase undergraduate enrollment by 180 students in 2026; South China University of Technology will increase the national enrollment by 150 students compared to 2025. Tongji University, Nankai University, Shandong University, Central University of Finance and Economics, China University of Mining and Technology, and other universities will all add 100 new enrollment spots in 2026. AI intelligence has become a popular new major. Nine universities including Beihang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and Harbin Institute of Technology have been simultaneously approved to open intelligent engineering programs. Tongji University will add two new undergraduate majors in future robots and engineering internet. Multiple universities will expand their programs in robotics engineering, computer science, big data, artificial intelligence, and other related fields at the same time.
