Latest data: By 2025, the number of information technology positions in securities firms in Shanghai will exceed that of research positions.

On June 22, the Shanghai Securities Intermediaries Association released the 2025 annual human resources profile of the Shanghai securities industry. The latest data shows that by the end of 2025, there were 70,857 securities industry employees in the Shanghai area, a decrease of 1.49% compared to the previous year. In terms of job functions, by the end of 2025, there were 16,856 brokerage business positions, 5,564 information technology positions in Shanghai securities companies, with a significant increase in staff, representing an increase of 1.19 and 0.4 percentage points respectively. Information technology ranks surpassed research positions to become the third largest category. There were also 8,983 investment banking positions and 5,393 research positions, representing a decrease of 1.41 and 0.46 percentage points respectively.
