On June 21, the Yunnan Provincial Enrollment Examination Institute released a situation report. In response to the error in the content of question 29 of the Yunnan Province 2026 middle school entrance examination history paper, the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education has instructed the Yunnan Provincial Enrollment Examination Institute to immediately conduct an investigation into the question setting work and assess the impact on answering. The relevant situation report is as follows: 1. Verification of test questions: The statement "Edison was born in New York in 1882" is incorrect and should be "Edison was born in Ohio in 1847." The statement "Edison invented more than 1000 patented technologies such as light bulbs, telephones, and movies in his lifetime" is not precise and should be "Edison obtained over 1000 patents for inventions in the fields of light bulbs, telephones, and movies in his lifetime." In response to the above issues, the Yunnan Provincial Enrollment Examination Institute promptly organized a panel of history experts, frontline teachers, and representatives of grassroots examination and enrollment institutions to form an expert group, review the question material, trace the question setting and screening process, and carry out a review and assessment from aspects such as the composition of the test material, questioning, impact on student answers, and test scoring standards. It was comprehensively judged that the content of exhibit 2 includes the person's name, nationality, early experiences, and major contributions. The question requires a brief analysis of Edison's inventions' impact on social production and life. Students should mainly answer based on the "major contributions" content in exhibit 2 and their knowledge. The scoring criteria do not involve Edison's birth time and place. The Yunnan Provincial Enrollment Examination Institute has unified the scoring guidelines for this question, will further enhance supervision and guidance, organize scoring objectively and fairly, and carefully review each scoring result. 2. Handling situation: The Yunnan Provincial Department of Education has set up an investigation team to investigate the relevant responsible units and individuals. Currently, the deputy leader in charge of the Yunnan Provincial Enrollment Examination Institute, the director of the question setting department, and the secretary of the middle school history subject of the entrance examination have been suspended for inspection.
