A annual financial disclosure document released on Thursday showed that Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook received over $1 million last year to pay for legal and security expenses to fight against the actions of President Trump attempting to dismiss her. In the 2025 Federal Reserve ethical disclosure document, Cook stated that legal fees of nearly $1.2 million paid by others on her behalf last year were listed as gifts. About $700,000 of the legal support came from the non-profit organization Democracy Defenders Fund, which had previously criticized the Trump administration. The organization's co-founder and executive director, Norm Eisen, said, "Democracy Defenders Fund is honored to be part of the legal defense team in this case, which is part of our struggle to uphold the rule of law." The disclosure document also showed that Cook received smaller amounts of security funding from other donors, as well as additional pro bono legal and security services.
