A group of Amazon engineers openly criticized the company's aggressive expansion of artificial intelligence data centers and called on the government to strengthen regulation, and now they are facing internal investigations by the company. Earlier this month, the Seattle City Council sought public input on a policy to temporarily halt new large-scale data center projects for a year to allow time for the city to improve related regulatory rules. Five Amazon employees attended the hearing and testified. On June 9, the Seattle City Council unanimously passed the ban on construction suspension. Several employees at the hearing criticized tech companies for spending exorbitant amounts of money in the AI field, describing this expansion model as a "reckless AI infrastructure race at all costs." According to a complaint filed by the employees' attorney with the Seattle Office for Civil Rights on Friday, three Amazon employees were invited to participate in an online meeting organized by the human resources department after the hearing. HR stated that the company had received related reports and was conducting an internal investigation into the public testimonies of several employees at the city council.
