Guizhou launches Level IV emergency response to flood prevention.
According to the Guizhou Province Emergency Management Department, according to the weather forecast, Guizhou Province will enter a new period of heavy rainfall from around June 17th to 25th. The accumulated rainfall will generally be above 150 millimeters, with some areas in the eastern and southern parts reaching 250-400 millimeters, and some areas reaching 500-700 millimeters. The strongest rainfall is expected to occur on the night of the 18th, 22nd, and into the 23rd, with some areas experiencing daily rainfall of 250-300 millimeters, and the maximum hourly rainfall intensity reaching 80-120 millimeters. This round of rainfall in Guizhou Province will be long-lasting with large accumulated rainfall, possibly exceeding historical records, and there is a high risk of rainfall-induced disasters. Coupled with the Dragon Boat Festival holiday and the period of the national college entrance examination, the earlier persistent heavy rainfall has saturated the soil, raised water levels in rivers and lakes, resulting in a high risk of geological disasters such as landslides and debris flows, as well as secondary disasters such as mountain torrents, river and lake floods, and urban and rural waterlogging. In accordance with the "Guizhou Province Flood Control and Drought Relief Emergency Plan", after consultation and analysis, the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters has decided to initiate a level four emergency response to flood prevention at the provincial level starting at 3:00 p.m. on June 17th.
