The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics released the economic performance of Beijing from January to May 2026. From January to May, the total market consumption in the city increased by 1.5% year on year. Among them, the service consumption increased by 4.5%, with faster growth in areas such as information and transportation; the total retail sales of social consumer goods reached 546.9 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.5%. In terms of consumption form, retail sales of goods reached 494.27 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.8%; catering revenue was 52.63 billion yuan, an increase of 0.8%. In terms of commodity categories, retail sales of restricted wholesale and retail businesses increased by 23.3% for gold, silver, and jewelry, with growth slowing down due to the decline in gold prices; retail sales of new energy vehicles increased by 4.1%, while wearable smart devices, high-efficiency household appliances, and audio-visual equipment all increased by more than 50%; retail sales of beverages and tobacco increased by 4.1% and 11.1% respectively; due to insufficient demand for traditional fuel vehicles, retail sales of automotive products decreased by 17.3%.
