Ecuador 10 provinces and 3 cities enter a state of emergency.
Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno signed a decree on the 16th, declaring a state of emergency for 60 days in 10 provinces and 3 cities, including the capital Quito, in response to the worsening crime and violence incidents in recent times. The decree stated that since early June, there has been a significant increase in violent events, armed attacks, and organized crime activities nationwide, including murders, kidnappings, extortion, robberies, and drug trafficking, causing social panic and disrupting normal economic activities. Therefore, the decision was made to implement a state of emergency in multiple locations, including the provinces of Pichincha, Guayas, Manabi where Quito is located, and the cities of Cotopaxi and Lamanana in the Cotopaxi province.
