Fukushima nuclear power plant spent fuel pool cooling system malfunction

Tokyo Electric Power Company announced today that the spent fuel pools of Units 5 and 6 at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station experienced a "malfunction of the cooling system on the afternoon of June 13, temporarily halting operation." It is reported that after investigation, "no abnormality was found in the equipment," and the cooling system "resumed operation after being stopped for about an hour and a half." TEPCO stated that during this malfunction, the water temperature in the spent fuel pools and the radiation levels in the surrounding area "did not show any changes."
