Waymo acquires Arizona testing site from Apple for $220 million to expand its self-driving testing network.

According to documents from Maricopa County, Arizona, Waymo has acquired a 5500-acre testing facility in Wittman, Arizona, from a Delaware shell company associated with Apple for $220 million. The transaction was completed on June 5th. The site includes a 115-acre urban road testing area, a 35-acre vehicle dynamics testing area, a four-mile oval track, and a highway scene specifically designed for autonomous driving testing. The site was previously purchased by Apple for $125 million in 2021 and was originally a Fiat Chrysler testing facility used to test Apple's "Project Titan" prototype vehicle. The project was terminated in early 2024 after spending billions of dollars.
