Argentina said that hantavirus-carrying rodents have not been found in Mendoza province.
The Ministry of Health of Argentina said on the 12th that no rodents carrying the Hantavirus have been found in the province of Mendoza in the west of the country. From the 8th to the 12th, a team of experts from the Argentine National Laboratory and the Carlos Malbrn Institute of Health Research, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States, conducted an investigation on the Hantavirus in the province of Mendoza. The team set traps to catch rodents such as long-tailed pygmy rice rats to confirm the spread of Hantavirus in the area. The report released by the Ministry of Health of Argentina on the 12th stated that no rodents carrying the Hantavirus were found. On April 1st, the "Hendia Eos" cruise ship operated by the Dutch company Pan Ocean Exploration set sail from Ushuaia, the capital of the province of Tierra del Fuego in Argentina, to the African island nation of Cape Verde. A Hantavirus outbreak occurred during the journey, resulting in 3 deaths. Officials from the World Health Organization had previously stated that the first case on the "Hendia Eos" may have been infected before the cruise ship departed. Argentine experts had stated after conducting investigations in Ushuaia that there was no evidence to suggest that rodents captured in the area were infected with the Hantavirus. The Dutch couple who were the first to fall ill on board the "Hendia Eos" had visited the province of Mendoza before boarding.
