According to sources familiar with the matter, the Attorneys General of several states in the United States have jointly initiated an investigation into OpenAI. Multiple sources have stated that the artificial intelligence company received a wide-ranging subpoena on Friday, requesting various operational and user impact-related documents, including advertising business, user engagement and retention, consumer and health data management, businesses related to minors and the elderly, deep learning models, model bias issues, and internal company policies. A spokesperson for OpenAI stated in a release: "Artificial intelligence is an emerging and powerful technology, and we are committed to ensuring that the public can safely enjoy the benefits of this technology in a compliant and prudent manner. We value the concerns raised by the Attorneys General and will actively cooperate with the relevant authorities in their work." This month, the company has secretly submitted documents related to its initial public offering to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
