Ark, a shareholder of SpaceX, claims that the orbit data center could bring in $300 billion in annual revenue.
Brett Winton of Ark Investment Management said that based on current leasing rates, by the end of this decade SpaceX could generate $300 billion in annual revenue by deploying tens of gigawatts of orbital data center capacity. Winton, Chief Futurist at Ark, made the above assessment before the record-breaking IPO pricing of SpaceX on Thursday, explaining in detail the estimating logic behind his view of the company. SpaceX is currently the largest holding of Ark's venture capital fund. Opportunities for SpaceX include new types of booster rockets and lucrative Starlink satellite internet business. "Just the Starlink business alone can recoup cash investments within six months," Winton said in an interview on Thursday, as the cost of a SpaceX launch with a full load of satellites is about $500 million, but these satellites will generate $1 billion in revenue each year over a five-year lifespan.
