Meridian Channels: The number and amount of new mortgage insurance taken in Hong Kong in May dropped by more than 10%, hitting a new low in three months.

According to the latest data from the Mortgage Research Department and Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited, obtained by Zhitong Finance and Economics APP, in May 2026, the number of new mortgage insurance plan loans approved was 1,073, with a total amount of 60.99 billion Hong Kong dollars. This is a decrease from April, where there were 1,104 loans approved with a total amount of 58.88 billion Hong Kong dollars, a decrease of 31 loans and a three-month low in number of loans, while the total amount increased by 2.11 billion Hong Kong dollars.
