Recently, many consumers have reported a significant increase in egg prices. In the poultry egg trading area of the Xinfadi Agricultural Products Wholesale Market in Beijing, the wholesale price of eggs per catty reached 5.5 yuan at the beginning of June, an increase of about 26% from the beginning of May, and a nearly 80% increase compared to the same period last year, setting a record high for the same period in nearly 5 years. The market manager stated that the significant increase in egg prices is not only due to the demand during the Dragon Boat Festival, but also because there has been a temporary tightness in supply. According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the obvious increase in egg prices has led to the poultry farming industry coming out of a period of losses, with most poultry farms nationwide achieving profitability in May, with profits of about 0.5 yuan to 1.2 yuan per catty of eggs.
