China has become the largest source of passenger cars in Australia, and BYD electric cars are selling well.
China has surpassed Japan to become Australia's largest car supplier, with imports from companies such as BYD accelerating to a historic high, mainly due to demand for electric vehicles. According to government data released on Thursday, nearly 36,000 passenger cars from China arrived in Australia in April, far exceeding the 29,000 from Japan. This has resulted in over 100,000 Chinese cars arriving in Australia in the first four months of this year, a 51% increase compared to the same period last year. According to data from the Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, in May, sales of electric vehicles and hybrids in Australia accounted for almost half of total car sales, with BYD ranking second, doubling its market share within a year. Toyota remains the largest single brand.
