The United States has held preliminary discussions on acquiring stakes in several artificial intelligence companies such as OpenAI.
NOTUS cites three informed sources reporting that senior US officials have had initial discussions with several large artificial intelligence companies about the possibility of the federal government acquiring partial ownership of these companies. According to the report, since the start of President Trump's second term, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has regularly discussed this idea with senior officials in the Trump administration. Altman reportedly directly proposed this concept to Trump as early as the beginning of 2025, and in recent weeks, he has again discussed the matter with senior officials. The focus of the discussions is on these companies voluntarily transferring ownership to the government. The investment return could be used for public purposes, such as distributing dividends to all American households. A White House spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
