Switzerland will deploy four thousand troops to the neighboring border during the G7 summit in France.
The Swiss Federal Government announced on the 4th that during the G7 summit in mid-June in France, Switzerland will deploy about 4,000 armed forces members in the border areas near the event venue. The Swiss government stated that from June 15th to 17th, leaders of the G7 and other countries will hold a meeting in Evian-les-Bains on the southern shore of Lake Geneva. Due to the venue being near the Swiss border, the cantonal security forces of Geneva, Vaud, and Valais face serious challenges, so the Swiss Federal Council and Parliament have approved the deployment of military forces to support them. The Swiss government also said that military personnel will be responsible for protecting sensitive infrastructure such as Geneva Airport during the meeting, and they will provide support for border security. The Air Force will strengthen air surveillance capabilities and, with international cooperation, will implement airspace restrictions from 10th June 13:00 to 18th June 03:00, including deploying anti-drone systems. Evian-les-Bains in France faces Lausanne in Switzerland, known as the "Olympic Capital," across Lake Geneva on the north shore. Lausanne and Geneva are only about 60 kilometers apart. In 2003, during the G8 summit in Evian-les-Bains, serious riots occurred in Geneva and Lausanne.
