Among the top five decliners in the London stock market component stocks that day were: insurance and financial investment company Prudential Group fell 7.60%, retail company Sainsbury's fell 3.09%, Standard Chartered Bank fell 2.81%, Rio Tinto Group fell 2.79%, and Polar Capital Technology Trust Company fell 2.54%.
As for the other two major stock indexes in Europe, the CAC 40 Index in Paris closed at 8,244.29 points, up 93.87 points from the previous trading day, an increase of 1.15%; the DAX Index in Frankfurt closed at 24,944.95 points, up 149.01 points from the previous trading day, an increase of 0.60%.
