Under pressure from the United States, more businesses are withdrawing from Cuba. According to Cuban state media quoting a statement from the country's central bank, the impact of the latest sanctions by US President Trump will result in Visa and Mastercard suspending their transaction operations in the country starting this weekend. Prior to this, Melia International Hotel Group had announced that their brand would be withdrawing from Cuba and immediately terminating their operating agreements with 15 hotels in Cuba. Although the Spanish company did not explicitly mention the US sanctions, they stated that the decision was made based on considerations of Cuba's "geopolitical, social, legal, and economic environment."
