A European Commission spokesperson said that the EU plans to impose fines of up to hundreds of millions of euros on Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, in its antitrust investigation. The decision is close to completion and is expected to be formally announced before the summer break. It was also noted that this would be the highest fine imposed by the EU for violating the new Digital Markets Act. The investigation was officially launched in March 2025, aiming to address concerns about Google favoring its own services in search results and ensure that the world's most popular internet search engine complies with local regulations.
