On May 25th, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced that by the end of 2030, the national urban solid waste recycling rate will strive to achieve 76% or higher. May 25-31 is the Fourth National Urban Solid Waste Sorting Promotion Week. On the 25th, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development organized a national urban solid waste sorting work site meeting in Beijing. The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development stated that this year, the Ministry will adhere to the goals of waste sorting and reduction, resource utilization, and harmlessness without wavering, continuously optimize and improve the policy system, strengthen the management of recyclables according to local conditions, improve the recycling rate of waste resources, promote high-quality urban development, and build a beautiful China. The official said that over the past decade, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has persistently led and guided the promotion of waste sorting work comprehensively. Currently, waste sorting is basically fully covered in 297 prefectural-level and above cities. Prefectural-level and above cities have enacted 199 local regulations or rules related to waste sorting, formulated and issued over 100 technical standards and specifications, making waste sorting a fundamental task in various regions, implemented in accordance with laws and regulations. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, by the end of 2025, there will be 1137 incineration facilities nationwide, with a daily processing capacity of 1.18 million tons. 15 provinces and cities including Beijing, Zhejiang, and Shandong will achieve "zero landfill" for original residential waste, with emissions of major pollutants controlled at a leading global level.
