The United States once again delays the closure of two units at a fossil fuel power plant in Pennsylvania.
The Trump administration on Thursday further delayed the closure of the main units of the coal-fired power plant in Pennsylvania's Edystone, ordering Constellation Energy Group to continue operating Units 3 and 4 beyond the original schedule. The U.S. Department of Energy said in a statement that Energy Secretary Rick issued an emergency order directing the largest power grid operator in North America, PJM Interconnection, to work with Constellation Energy to ensure that these two units remain operational and "minimize costs to the American people." "The most valuable energy is the one that can be operational when it is most needed - which is why during peak electricity demand over the past year, natural gas and oil have been particularly important," Rick said in the statement.
