Google and Samsung Electronics unveil smart glasses design, planned for release in the fall.
Samsung Electronics and Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., have released a smart glasses design developed in collaboration with eyewear partners Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, with plans to launch in the fall. This product will enter a field currently dominated by Meta Platforms Inc., as the first in a series of AI-powered smart glasses products that allow consumers to interact with Google's AI agent Gemini through voice commands - similar to how Meta AI operates on Ray-Ban smart glasses. A model with a built-in display screen is currently in development and expected to be released in 2027, but the Warby Parker and Gentle Monster hardware will primarily focus on audio and integrate a camera for Gemini. When wearing these glasses, users can ask for directions, play music, answer voice calls, listen to notifications, add calendar events, request real-time translation from Gemini, and utilize other features. Data collected by the camera allows users to retrieve detailed information on any object they are looking at. Additionally, the glasses can take photos and videos through buttons or voice commands, with LED indicator lights alerting nearby individuals that the camera is in use.
