The US Treasury Secretary calls for further crackdown on Iran's financial network and will review the US sanction list.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin called on allies to increase efforts to crack down on Iran's financial networks on Tuesday, and stated that the Treasury Department will remove outdated designations from the sanctions list to make it easier for financial institutions to identify complex terrorist financing schemes. Speaking after a meeting of G7 finance leaders in Paris, Mnuchin said participants need to "stand together with full force" to firmly oppose Iran. Mnuchin said, "This will require, for example, our European partners to work with the United States to take action against Iran, including listing Iran's funders on the sanctions list, exposing their shell companies and front companies, closing their bank branches, and dismantling their proxies. This will also require countries in the Middle East and Asia to help completely eradicate Iran's shadow banking network."
