According to informed sources, after years of negotiations, the United Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries are about to finalize a long-awaited free trade agreement. The UK has been negotiating a free trade agreement with the GCC member countries since 2022. Sources reveal that a preliminary agreement is expected to be reached within days, and the Secretary-General of the GCC, Jassim Al-Bidaei, is expected to visit London this week. A UK official stated that the negotiations have entered a deepening phase, and a government spokesperson also said that the relevant negotiations are ongoing and are a priority. The UK government estimates that this free trade agreement could increase the UK's annual GDP by 1.6 billion to 3.1 billion by 2036, translating into a 0.06% to 0.11% long-term GDP growth for the UK. Bilateral trade between the Gulf countries and the UK currently exceeds $53 billion.
