Indian Zee company sues Disney-20th Century Fox for alleged infringement of music copyright.
Court documents show that Indian entertainment company Zee Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against the country's largest entertainment company - the Reliance-Disney joint venture, accusing them of continuing to use music owned by Zee after the license agreement has expired. Previously undisclosed court documents show that Zee is seeking $3 million in damages, alleging that Reliance-Disney used and exploited the work of its music department without authorization on streaming platforms and some of its television channels. This lawsuit filed in New Delhi was first reported by Reuters, marking the latest legal conflict between Zee and the group formed by Reliance and Disney in a $8.5 billion merger in 2024. With the integration of the Indian streaming and broadcasting market, this dispute highlights the increasingly tense situation in terms of content rights. Both Zee Group and JioStar declined to comment.
