On May 3rd, local time, a United Airlines plane in the United States hit a lamppost on the New Jersey Turnpike adjacent to Newark Liberty International Airport while landing that afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration said the flight was arriving from Venice, Italy to the United States on a Boeing 767 and ultimately landed safely. Currently, related investigation work is underway. United Airlines said in a statement that the passengers and crew on board were not injured, and the maintenance team is assessing the damage to the plane and will investigate the cause of the incident. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said the plane hit the lamppost on its way to Runway 29, causing damage to the lamppost and a tractor-trailer traveling south on the turnpike at the time. The driver of the tractor-trailer was lightly injured and taken to the hospital for treatment, and has since been discharged.
