The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company has informed some long-term customers that they can extract goods near Fujairah outside the Persian Gulf. According to traders, ADNOC informed buyers that they can extract grades of crude oil including Upper Zakum through ship-to-ship transfer near Fujairah. These goods are mainly available for shipping in May. Upper Zakum crude oil is usually shipped from the port of Zirku Island in the deep waters of the Persian Gulf, which has no pipelines connecting to the mainland. By providing goods through STS transfers near Fujairah, it means that this crude oil is already on ships outside the Strait of Hormuz. It is currently unclear when and how the Upper Zakum crude oil will pass through the strait, as passage through the Strait of Hormuz remains restricted due to blockades by Iran and the United States. The UAE does have an oil pipeline leading to Fujairah, but it is primarily used to transport the country's flagship grade, Murban crude oil.
