Global military spending continues to rise in 2025, with European military spending increasing by 14%.

On April 27th, local time, a latest report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute showed that global military spending in 2025 reached $288.7 billion, an increase of 2.9% from the previous year, with Europe seeing a 14% increase to reach $864 billion. Global military spending in 2025 has continued to rise for the 11th consecutive year, pushing the global military spending to GDP ratio to 2.5%, the highest level since 2009. Data showed that the total military spending of 29 NATO member countries in Europe reached $559 billion in 2025, with at least 22 countries spending at least 2.0% of their GDP on military expenses.
