Criminals impersonating airline staff make fraudulent calls, Chinese Embassy in France issues warning.
On April 27, the Chinese Embassy in France issued a security alert: Recently, some airlines have reported to our embassy that passengers have received fraudulent calls from criminals pretending to be airline staff. The specific scam is as follows:
Step one: Criminals use technology to change the caller ID to the airline's customer service number;
Step two: They falsely claim that the passenger's "flight is abnormal," "insurance is abnormal," "there is a problem with the ticket," or that they need to pay a "breach fee" for "a large number of purchased tickets" or "frequent changes to flights suspected of insurance fraud";
Step three: They threaten to blacklist the passenger or insist that the call be transferred to the so-called "public security agency" to pressure the passenger to transfer money immediately.
In light of this, the Chinese Embassy in France reminds Chinese citizens in France: Airlines will not ask for verification codes, bank cards, or other personal information over the phone, nor will they ask passengers to transfer money or transfer calls to public officials. If you receive a similar call, please hang up directly and verify and confirm through the airline's official website, official app, or legitimate ticketing channel.
