In order to strengthen the ecological protection and restoration work in Tibet and further build a solid national ecological security barrier, the National Development and Reform Commission recently issued the "Tibet Ecological Security Barrier Protection and Construction Plan". It requires that by 2030, the forest coverage in Tibet will reach at least 12.61%, the comprehensive vegetation coverage of grasslands will exceed 50%, the soil conservation rate will increase to 92.22%, natural protected areas will account for more than 1/3 of the total land area in the region, and the ecological environment quality will steadily improve. The plan will optimize the ecological security barrier system, implement projects for the protection and restoration of the northwestern Tibetan plateau, and improve the natural protected area system. It will also systematically promote the establishment of national parks featuring high-altitude ecosystems and mountain cryosphere.
