The statement said that Guterres expressed solidarity with the people of Mali, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. He called for coordinated international support to address the evolving threat of violent extremism and terrorism in the Sahel region of Africa, and to meet urgent humanitarian needs. He once again called for strong security coordination and cooperation in the region. The Malian military said on the 25th that unidentified armed terrorist organizations attacked locations in the capital Bamako and military camps earlier in the day. The Malian armed forces have killed hundreds of terrorists in response to attacks in multiple locations, and related clearance operations are still ongoing.
