Affected by the war and the continued high gasoline prices and inflation, consumer confidence in the United States fell for the second consecutive month in April, dropping to a level comparable to the mid-2022 low. According to survey data released by the University of Michigan in the United States on the 24th, the final consumer confidence index for April was 49.8, lower than the final value of 53.3 in March, and lower than the final value of 52.2 in April of last year. The final value of the current economic conditions index in April was 52.5, lower than the final value of 55.8 in March, and lower than the final value of 59.8 in April of last year. The final value of the consumer expectations index in April was 48.1, lower than the final value of 51.7 in March, and slightly higher than the final value of 47.3 in April of last year. The survey shows that confidence among people of different parties, incomes, ages, and educational levels has all decreased; consumers' short-term and long-term expectations for the business environment have deteriorated, almost matching the level seen during the implementation of equivalent tariff systems last year.
