The third meeting of the China-Thailand Foreign Ministers' Consultation Mechanism
On April 24, 2026 local time, Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held the third meeting of the China-Thailand Foreign Ministers' Consultation Mechanism with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak in Bangkok.
Wang Yi stated that last year, China and Thailand jointly commemorated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and celebrated the "Golden 50 Years of China-Thailand Friendship". King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand made his first state visit to China, during which President Xi Jinping reached important consensus with him on advancing the building of a community with a shared future for China and Thailand. Various departments and regions of the two countries efficiently coordinated and implemented measures to promote cooperation in various fields, strengthening the foundation of the "China-Thailand family" relationship. This year marks the beginning of China's "14th Five-Year Plan" and the start of the Thai government's governance. In the face of complex and evolving international situations, China is willing to work with Thailand, following the guidance of the strategic consensus between the leaders of the two countries, to leverage the coordinating role of the foreign ministers' consultation mechanism, promote the modernization processes of both countries, practice true multilateralism together, and create a new "Golden 50 Years" for China-Thailand relations, making new contributions to promoting unity and self-improvement among countries in the Southern Hemisphere globally and regional peace and stability.
Wang Yi said that China has always placed Thailand in an important position in its peripheral diplomacy, advocating mutual respect, equality, mutual assistance, and common development, promoting economic development for both sides, and maintaining regional peace and stability. China is willing to continue to be a strategic partner that Thailand can rely on, support the new Thai government in leading the people on a development path that suits its own national conditions, and promote the building of a more stable, prosperous, and sustainable community with a shared future for China and Thailand. We believe that Thailand will continue to firmly support China's peaceful reunification cause. Both sides should maintain high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, strengthen strategic alignment in development, initiate the formulation of a new version of the five-year action plan, intensify efforts to combat transnational crimes, thoroughly eradicate the scourges of gambling fraud and drugs, and closely cooperate on multilateral initiatives.
Wang Yi stated that China has always advocated for the resolution of disputes between countries through dialogue rather than the use of force. He hopes that Thailand and Cambodia will show restraint and tolerance, create a conducive environment for dialogue, consolidate the ceasefire situation, resume bilateral contacts, and resolve border disputes at an early date to maintain a peaceful and stable environment. As a common friend of Thailand and Cambodia, China is willing to continue to build a platform for rebuilding mutual trust and improving relations between the two sides.
