The Pentagon angrily refuted media reports that it would take six months for clearing mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Media reports criticizing the United States for potentially taking months to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz have been dismissed, accusing the media of distorting classified information. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, in an interview with the BBC, denied the claim that clearing mines in this important waterway could take up to six months. He stated, "Just because an assessment is done, doesn't mean that assessment is reasonable. The idea of closing the Strait of Hormuz for six months is impossible and completely unacceptable." Parnell also criticized reports based on leaked materials, accusing the media of distorting facts. "The media is selecting leaked information from classified closed-door briefings, most of which are false. This practice is dishonest journalism."
