"Extremely high" levels of nuclear radiation measured inside the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident reactor in Japan.
On the 23rd, Tokyo Electric Power Company announced the results of an internal investigation of the reactor at Unit 2 of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, indicating a "extremely high" level of nuclear radiation inside the reactor. This is the first time since the nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011 that TEPCO has measured nuclear radiation inside a reactor core that has melted down. According to NHK, the investigation was conducted on the 16th by inserting a fiber optic endoscope containing measuring instruments through a pipeline into the interior of the reactor. At a position approximately 5 meters from the bottom of the reactor, a nuclear radiation dose of approximately 4.7 sieverts per hour was measured, which is considered to be at an "extremely high" level.
