The National Health Commission today released the "Diagnosis and Treatment Plan for Nipah Virus Disease." The plan states that Nipah virus disease is an acute zoonotic infectious disease caused by the Nipah virus, mainly manifested as symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, with severe cases showing symptoms of seizures, coma, and acute encephalitis. Some may also experience coughing, shortness of breath, and other respiratory symptoms, with severe cases progressing to acute respiratory distress syndrome, resulting in a high mortality rate. There have been no reports of human infections with Nipah virus disease in China, but in recent years, sporadic detection of Nipah virus antibody positivity has been found in fruit bats in some southern provinces. In 2024, the National Health Commission and the General Administration of Customs will include Nipah virus disease in the "Monitoring of Infectious Diseases Catalog."
