According to reports, British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rives will meet with top executives from major banks in the UK on Wednesday, as the ongoing Iran crisis continues to put pressure on the British economy. Executives from Barclays Bank, HSBC Holdings, Lloyds Banking Group, National Westminster Bank Group, and the UK branch of Spanish Santander Bank have been invited to attend the meeting with Rives. It is reported that Rives is likely to mention the need for banks to continue to commit to supporting customers affected by the inflation pressures caused by this crisis during the meeting. Other topics of discussion will include banking capital reforms and potential revisions to the "ring-fencing" system introduced after the 2008 financial crisis. The British Treasury and the aforementioned banks have all declined to comment on the report.
