According to an official source, the European Union will urge member states to reduce their reliance on Middle Eastern aviation fuel in the latest guidelines to be released next week, as the Iran war disrupts global supplies. They will also explore increasing imports from the United States. These previously unreported and still pending plans will focus more on achieving self-sufficiency and supply resilience through sustainable aviation fuel or synthetic fuel. European airlines have warned that there may be a shortage of aviation fuel in the coming weeks due to the impact of the Iran war, which could disrupt the peak summer travel season. European aviation fuel relies on imports for about 30-40%, with at least half coming from the Middle East.
