The International Monetary Fund has stated that due to the mining boom and strong currency, the Democratic Republic of Congo is expected to surpass Ethiopia this year and become the fifth largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa. The fund estimates that Congo's gross domestic product will reach $123 billion in 2026, higher than Ethiopia's $122 billion. South Africa will maintain its leading position, followed by Nigeria, Angola, and Kenya. The IMF predicts that the Congolese economy will grow by 5.9% this year, while Ethiopia will grow by 9.2%, and overall sub-Saharan Africa is expected to grow by 4.3%.
