On April 16, the Qiongzhong court publicly pronounced the verdict on the case of bribery and embezzlement of the former chairman of the Hainan Football Association, Lu Jianhai. The defendant Lu Jianhai was sentenced to ten years in prison and fined 750,000 yuan for bribery, and sentenced to seven years in prison and fined 500,000 yuan for embezzlement. The multiple counts were combined, and it was decided to execute a thirteen-year prison term and a fine of 1.25 million yuan. Facts of embezzlement: From 2009 to 2024, the defendant Lu Jianhai used his positions as director of the Hainan Sports Events Center, chairman of the provincial sports school, and chairman of the provincial football association to embezzle public funds totaling more than 4.78 million yuan for the purpose of illegal possession. The court believed that Lu Jianhai, as a state employee, used his position to seek benefits for others and illegally received more than 7.5 million yuan from others, which was of a particularly large amount and violated the integrity and incorruptibility of official duties, constituting a crime of bribery. He also used his position to deceive and embezzle public funds totaling more than 4.78 million yuan, which was of a particularly large amount, constituting a crime of embezzlement. Lu Jianhai committed multiple crimes and should be sentenced accordingly. Considering Lu Jianhai's truthful confession of bribery, voluntary disclosure of embezzlement, voluntary confession and punishment, as well as the return of part of the illegal gains, the court made the above judgment.
