According to a source familiar with the matter, the technical team at the US Treasury Department is seeking access to Anthropic Company's Mythos artificial intelligence model in order to start looking for system vulnerabilities. The source said that the goal of Sam Cochis, the Chief Information Officer of the US Treasury Department, is to obtain access to the model as soon as possible. Anthropic Company has only been open to a limited number of institutions for this model. The source stated that Cochis introduced the technology to the Treasury Department's cybersecurity team last week and instructed them to prepare for the potential threats that a powerful artificial intelligence system could bring. US Treasury Secretary Yellen and Federal Reserve Chairman Powell convened an emergency meeting with Wall Street leaders last week, concerned that the Mythos model could usher in a era of higher network risk. Anthropic has issued warnings that if companies do not test their own systems and establish defenses before widespread deployment, the model may have the capability to support network attacks.
